Celebrating 5 years of The Hello In There Foundation
In September 2026, The Hello In There Foundation will celebrate five years of honoring John Prine’s legacy through music, community and a commitment to helping others. Since its founding, the Foundation has turned the generosity of Prine’s fans and supporters into more than $1 million in grants to organizations across the country, continuing the spirit of kindness and compassion that defined John’s life and work.
A major part of that success has come through music. From 2022 through 2025, the Foundation’s annual You Got Gold: A Celebration of the Life & Songs of John Prine brought together an extraordinary community of artists and fans in Nashville. The multi-day celebrations transformed John’s music into a powerful force for giving, with proceeds helping fund the Foundation’s grantmaking efforts.
The Foundation has also continued to share John’s story with audiences beyond the concert stage. Multiple screenings of the concert documentary How Lucky Can One Man Get brought Prine’s music and legacy to theaters throughout the country, giving fans new opportunities to experience his work while supporting the Foundation’s mission.
The celebration continues this fall in Chicago, where the Prine family and The Hello In There Foundation will commemorate what would have been John’s 80th birthday. From October 7–11, 2026, artists, friends and fans will gather for a series of events celebrating John’s music, humor and humanity.
Five years in, The Hello In There Foundation’s work is a testament to the lasting impact of John Prine. Through music, generosity and community, his simple message continues to resonate: sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.
